Akhram is a peace and humans right campaigner, writer and broadcaster. The founder of British Arabs Supporting Universal Women’s Rights (BISRA), she campaigns for justice for women in the Middle East and North Africa. She has spoken out on wide-ranging issues, from underage marriage to female genital mutilation and honour killings.
Akram is a British citizen of Palestinian origin and has lived in London since 1979. She has contributed to a number of Arabic newspapers including Al-Quds and Elpah and has appeared on Sky TV and BBC.
Entry to the event is FREE for IR Soc members and £2 for non-members. Membership can be purchased on the door. The event will be followed by a wine reception.
