List of open positions:
President: oversees the overall affairs of the Society, sets its strategic direction, and raises the Society’s profile. Tasks include spearheading the committee, inviting distinguished speakers, hosting events, and liaising with the University community. The President ensures the smooth running of all activities and represents the Society.
Secretary: is essential to supporting and facilitating all Society activities. The Secretary is effectively the second in command following the President, and acts to support the President as well as being responsible for overseeing adherence with the Proctors’ regulations. The Secretary will engage in administrative tasks such as taking minutes, as well as assisting to produce a term card, organise venues, and finalise speakers.
Treasurer: plays a key role in the society, managing society finances and seeking new opportunities for its growth. Key responsibilities include overseeing the society budget, regularly updating the committee on the society’s finances and seeking and managing funding opportunities and partnerships. Preference given to UK nationals due to UK banking account logistics (for either one of the Treasury or Deputy Treasury roles).
Deputy Treasurer: assists and supports the Treasurer in all their responsibilities, including overseeing the society budget, regularly updating the committee on the society’s finances and seeking and managing funding opportunities and partnerships. Preference given to UK nationals due to UK banking account logistics (for either one of the Treasury or Deputy Treasury roles).
Communications Secretary: is in charge of running our social media channels, advertising events, and communicating with our members as well as the university community more broadly. They will have freedom to create their own social media strategy, and will maintain close contact with the President and Secretary to ensure subscription to events and the society more broadly.
Deputy Communications Secretary: assists and supports the Communications Secretary in all their responsibilities, including running social media channels, advertising events, and communications with our members and the university community more broadly.
Social Secretary: main responsibility is running our flagship event, Rum and Realpolitik, which attracts dozens of members each term. The Social Secretary will liaise with the rest of the committee to ensure the success of the event. The Social Secretary is also responsible for organising external trips to think tanks and embassies for members of the society, allowing them to develop close relations with the policy world. We also encourage the Social Secretary to develop other social events for the society at their discretion.
Head of events: main responsibility is overseeing and managing the body of events officers, who are elected at the start of the academic year and help run events. Tasks include keeping track of attendance, recruiting officers, and liaising with the rest of the committee on logistics for running events.
