Join Oxford University International Relations Society and Professor Sjoberg for an exciting discussion on feminist international relations. In her seminal work Women as Wartime Rapists (NYU, 2016), Prof Sjoberg explores women’s engagement with genocidal rape and how some orchestrated the ethnic cleansing of entire regions. Prof Sjoberg's feminist perspective elevates a number of causal variables in war decision-making. These include structural gender inequality, cycles of gendered violence, state masculine posturing, the often overlooked role of emotion in political interactions, gendered understandings of power, and states' mistaken perception of their own autonomy and unitary nature.
